During this 3 day workshop, participants will create a Christmas slow stitch table runner that you will make out of an old hemp/linen hand towel from Italy. You will be shown how to work on your composition using old doilies, fabrics and laces. Participants will then be taught the basics of slow stitching, applique and embroidery to complete your project.
Whilst we are working on a Christmas themed table runner, you may choose to make a table runner without a Christmas theme by being selective with what you use.
Participants will be provided with all supplies needed for the day including a generous kit which has enough supplies for your table runner. Packs will include a combination of mostly vintage fabrics, doilies, laces, felt, wool and threads, etc. Please be aware that most of the supplies will be vintage/old so will be aged. This is the style that this project will be based on.
Participants do not need to bring any extra supplies, however if you have some old scraps of fabric or trims that you love and would like to use, please feel free to bring a small amount along to incorporate into your project. You only need small pieces for this project.
Slow stitching allows you to enjoy the process of hand sewing a variety of textiles together to make your own unique pieces. We do not follow set patterns, but are rather guided by our supplies and what we like. Each slow stitched project will be different depending on what you make.
No sewing experience is necessary to take part in this workshop.
Lunch and morning tea is supplied
In addition to the daytime joy we have arranged for the local vintage emporium, The Coolroom, to stay open late for us on the Thursday afternoon. Those that wish to participate can head there (2 min drive) and explore the 50+ independent vintage and collectible stalls within. And then from there we will book a large table at the local pub for a dinner together at 6ish, you can select and pay for your own dinner and enjoy socialising with the group. Again optional. We will take numbers on the first day of the workshop.
