What:
This workshop will concentrate on
Drawing as a skill focused on developing a line of trust and communication between the hand and eyes.
If you have attended my class before, you will have your own table to work on a still life and practice the tools given to you in our first class together.
If this is your first time to a drawing class with me you will select an object to focus on for the class and I will guide you through four to five drawings practicing different techniques to foster hand to eye communication and trust.
Each student will have my guidance and support for the duration of the class.
We will come together as a group to share our experience and observe our growth, eat cake, drink coffee and tea and have a laugh.
Why:
My husband had an amazing experience last year. He carved out a practice where he would drive to the river and sit and draw almost everyday. Sometimes he would be there for an hour sometimes only five minutes. Through this repetition he built confidence and his practice became calming and peaceful. His drawings grew into magnificent explorations of colour, line, form, movement, shape and space.
After several months of this practice he returned to his music ( which he had not practiced for the past ten years.) One day he picked it up and three months later he had written and recorded and produced his own album.
The drawing repetition nurtured his ability to tackle something that was challenging once until he mastered it. This then opened the space for him to return to his great love of creating music.
This is what I wish for all who come to a drawing class with me. Once we overcome a fear of something we think we cannot do - on the other side of that is a space to do whatever we wish to do!
