During this workshop, participants will create a mixed media junk journal out of an old book and a variety of papers. You will be shown how to construct your book, insert the pages and how to decorate your spine. Participants will then be taught how to make journal papers by 'mark making, before starting to work on some of your pages in your book. You will be taught how to add different elements to create a personal journal. This will be the beginning of your journey into creating your junk journal.
Participants will be given all supplies needed for the day including a generous starter kit of papers, some of which will be from the 17th & 18th century. A variety of mixed media materials will be used on the day including, a range of papers, paints, marker pens, watercolour pencils, crayons, oil pastels, thread, fabric scraps & laces, etc.
Participants do not need to bring any extra supplies, however if you have some favourite scraps of paper that you want to include, please feel free to bring some along.
Junk journals are handmade books made out of a variety of papers that are often old and recycled as well as other found materials. They can be used for a variety of reasons like writing in, drawing in or creating art in. During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to create your own mini-journal in the unique style that you like.
