In this workshop students will learn how to make a tapered lampshade from scratch, using industry-standard materials and learning numerous tips and tricks of the trade!
This workshop is suitable for beginners - no experience necessary (min. age 15 years) - however tapered shades are a bit fiddlier than drum shades.

All materials (except fabric*) for making a medium sized tapered lampshade
Refreshments will be provided
What to bring
Your own fabric*
If you own a pair of good fabric scissors please bring them (don’t worry if you don’t)
An old credit card, or store card
*Fabric requirements
You'll need approximately half a metre (x 110cm wide) of suitable* fabric; an info sheet will be emailed following booking including the fabric requirements in detail
*Suitable fabrics are lightweight dress/quilting/furnishing weight
Unsuitable fabrics are upholstery-weight, fray-able, or super lightweight (sheers/silks)
Teacher
Kate Malfroy is an experienced shade-maker with a passion for beautiful fabrics and rescuing old lampshades and furniture from landfill. She has run The Upholstery Workroom in her home studio in Jamberoo for many years, and loves nothing more than sharing her skills with keen learners.
